Over the last decade, Freelancers Union has built the largest grassroots movement of independent workers in the country, with 85,000 members in New York State alone. During that time we've taken on tough fights—and won concrete victories—for independent workers, including successfully lobbying for the right to offer portable group health insurance and creating more equitable tax policy.

Yet despite these wins, major obstacles to freelancing remain. Independent workers still pay twice as many taxes as traditional employees and can't get unemployment insurance or file claims for unpaid wages.

We're changing that by pushing elected officials to pass laws and develop policies that protect freelancers: expanding health insurance, repealing the Unincorporated Business Tax, and creating an unemployment insurance program for freelancers. We formed a PAC (Political Action Committee) to represent independent workers—one third of the workforce—so we can financially support lawmakers that support our issues and remove from office those who don't.

With your contribution, we can continue to win these tough fights.
